Women of Pink Feathers Flock Together
This project was inspired by the passing of my mother-in-law, Leona Hammerman, who died of breast cancer August 5, 1993, at the age of 71. Leona was a beloved wife, dear mother, devoted grandmother and the best mother-in-law anyone could ever have.
One of my daughters interviewed Leona for a grade school project and one question asked what accomplishment are you proudest of? Leona’s response was the following:
“As I look back on those years, and try to answer your question, I am afraid I have no great accomplishment to boast of. Still I am quite pleased with myself, for I am learning to put my puzzle together!
I am learning to smell the roses.
I am learning to let my mind flow with the
waters in the brook.
I am learning that life is a gift,
to be enjoyed every moment.
I am learning, albeit with difficulty,
not to “sweat” the small stuff.
I am learning that it’s not my place to
put the world together.
I am learning to let go.
I am learning to accept all that
comes my way….“
Although Leona is gone, we think of her everyday and will never forget the person she was and the difference she made in all of our lives. Her memory lives within our family forever. We love and miss you Leona!
