Marilyn
When the Mermaid Studio in Long Beach, New York, invited me to the Adelphi Creative Cups event, I was excited because I was looking forward to inviting my friends for fun and creative night together to support an important cause surrounded by many amazing talented women with stories to tell. That’s not why I got involved in this project. I got involved mainly because my sister-in-law, Marilyn, passed away a few years ago from inflammatory breast cancer. She was diagnosed at stage 4, after going back and forth to many doctors, thinking it was initially “just a rash.” From diagnosis to Marilyn’s passing, it was seven months. They treated her, they “cured” her, but with zero immune system left, she ended up dying from pneumonia.
I look at my “sexy” bra, with animal print, fringe and glitter, the opposite of conservative Marilyn and myself and I want it to scream out to people to get their mammograms, don’t miss a year. If you see something that doesn’t look or feel “right,” don’t wait. See your doctor.
September is a tough month, Marilyn’s birthday was September 13th. October is always a reminder of her fight. This November, her son, Greg, will be getting married and she will not be physically with us to share this blessed event. Her spirit will be.
Please continue this amazing Creative Cups project so that more stories can be heard and more financial help can go to the cause.
