Last Call
I would like to share fragments of the last telephonic conversation I shared with the mother of my son’s friend Ivan Carreño. Her name was Estella:
B: “Hi, Stella, how’re you feeling today?”
S: “Hi, Betty, I am sorry to tell you, but I am scared.”
B: “Why are you scared?”
S: “I am scared to die.”
B: “Stella, try not to see death in such a scary way. I think when we die, we start a new beginning. It should be a place where there is no pain, no worries. There we should only find peace and beautiful surroundings.”
This design is rooted in the Hindu belief that everything goes back to where it began; we neither die nor disappear, simply transform onto another stage of the living cycle. I hoped I had transmitted this view to my friend during her last days in our world. This bra is to honor her long living memory. Luz Estella Carreño. A mother, a sister, a daughter and a woman.
Special thanks to my teacher Eileen Moskowitz for helping me with this project.
I would like to say thank you to Adelphi for a beautiful program because they are always thinking of our feelings….
