Silverlining

Our bra, entitled Silverlining , is a collaboration of two female-run organizations on the Utica College campus: The K. Della Fergusons Womyn’s Resource Center and V-Day at UC. Our bra is designed in the perspective of a survivor of breast cancer.

The story begins with the waste of the bra covered in new paper clippings. This concept is an analogy of how breast cancer spreads like the news; it not the best thing but when you hear “It’s cancer,” it’s as if millions of people heard the statement with you and are willing to help you through the hard times. The cups of the bra are made of crumbled up magazine photos or an array of different people, showing that breast cancer can affect anyone. With all this said, the main purpose of our design is the idea that breast cancer is a dark cloud and under every dark cloud there is a Silverlining.

Silverlining is a giant cloud (the blue cotton rims of the bra cups) and the different people affected by it (the cups), ending with that moment when you realize that everything is going to be okay and you are survivor (underwire).
