Anne (“mother” in Turkish)
My inspiration came from my mother-in-law Sukriye Sarkli who was able to maintain her sense of humor, smile and laugh during times of great loss and sadness. The example she set enabled me to be strong when I heard those dreaded words, “You have breast cancer.”
I cherish the beads left to me by my dear mother-in-law who often made gifts for loved ones with them. When I heard about Creative Cups I knew it was the perfect opportunity to honor her with a work of art created with her beads. She always included evil eyes when she knitted sweaters for my son to protect him from harm. In Turkish, we call it “Nazar Boncugu,” which is believed to bring you good luck and will protect you from danger. See if you can spot the two evil eyes in my creation.
I want this bra to represent all women and the strength they possess when faced with adversity.
