Mom
During the last three years I have come to love Carmela as the daughter I never had. She lost her mother to breast cancer over 17 years ago when she was just 21 years old. Her mother emigrated from Italy and spoke no English. Carmela was the sole interpreter for her mother during her treatment and subsequent death. Mom was a true homebody taking care of her daughter, making homemade meals and clothing.
I make this bra to honor Carmela’s mom and to represent her sense of loss through the black heart and a portrait that shines as she looks heavenward to her mother’s spirit. The bra is fully covered representing modesty and the apron represents Mom’s homebody talents.
