On The Wings Of Hope And Healing
The origin of the word cancer is credited to Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine. He used the Greek terms carcinos and carcinoma (meaning crab) to describe tumors whose finger-like projections looked similar to a crab. Later, the Roman physician Celsus translated the Greek term to cancer, the Latin word for crab.
The black side of the bra represents the dark passages one traverses on a journey through cancer.
The pink side holds the wings of hope and healing, which emanate from a rose, a symbol of life.
The crab holds a mother of pearl orb in its claws representing the seed of hope one carries even in the darkest depths.
My bra is dedicated to my mother, Harriette Seepo, who at age 75 was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her right breast was removed. She is now 96…a happy and very grateful survivor. The pink button earring set in the rose was hers.
