I am from a town in India where not many girls are allowed to do what they desire. This artwork portrays the patriarchal society as chains, which tries its best to oppress a girl, stop her from fulfilling her dreams and compel her to live a life as an "ideal" wife or a mother, and not as an independent individual. I believe that we should come together and promote social change against this stereotypical thinking against women in this society. The butterfly depicts girls/women like me who want to fight all the obstacles and create a life of their own, the one where no one can control them and where men can't be authoritative. It shows that if someone endeavors to break free from societal expectations, they will always overcome hindrances.
